Something different

This is just a quick update on one of the things I’ve been doing with all the time I now have on my hands this summer thanks to the enforced break – see previous posts.

Season 2015 Update

Time for another update on my continuing groin injury, which at this point in the year, must then lead on to an update for the remainder of the season.

Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire – DNF

While it was sad to see my first DNF, it was a planned one. I didn’t even bring my bike up to the race.
The previously mentioned groin injury has been ever present since the race in St Pölten. While the pain from the injury has reduced, to the extent that I can move about generally with only a mild amount of pain, I still haven’t begun riding or running again and with now four weeks on the sidelines, I wasn’t going to hope for it to suddenly disappear if I jumped on the bike in a race.

Injury Update

What injury?? Despite the quad/ calf problems in the meat of the season last year, the broken foot in September and six weeks off this spring with another achilles problem – yes another injury, just as this years’ season gets going, and round we go again.

Ironman 70.3 St Pölten 2015

A new season and back racing with Global QROPS. A long awaited comeback race and it was a fiercely competitive event to get back into it! I went down to Austria to test myself against the best of the Europeans at Ironman 70.3 St. Poelten – a middle distance triathlon and qualifier for the 70.3 (middle) distance World Championships.

Keeping the Faith

After the negative post on here around breaking my foot and ending my 2014 season with all the training promise unfulfilled, I’m really really happy to kick off 2015 with some positive news. Despite the aforementioned 2014 disaster, I’ve sat down with the guys from Global QROPS again over the winter and they’ve been nothing but enthusiastic about my new plans for the triathlon season and want to support and be a part of the team once again.

The Cotswolds Classic – Game Over

Finish time: 4:15:22
Age Group Position: 1st
Overall position: 9th

The Cotswold Classic. This weekend began with forgetting my bike shoes 120 miles away from the race location and finished with looking at an x-ray of the 2nd metatarsal in my left foot, snapped in two.

Net effect, my season is over and I won’t be racing IM Barcelona in a few weeks time – the second ironman race I’ll pull out of this year and the end of attempting to qualify for Kona again, for the foreseeable future.

In-between, I won the 25-29 age group in this middle distance race, by a considerable margin, finished in the top 10 overall and took the fastest run split of the day with the only sub 80 minute half marathon.

Working with sponsor Relocation Travel

As is one of those things with racing triathlon, not everything goes to plan. This season, things have not gone to plan – or more specifically during six crucial weeks things did not go to plan.

Following a bad run of injuries I had to pull out of first the Sussex Triathlon and then one of the main goals of the year, Ironman UK, a qualifier for this year’s Ironman World Championships. This second one was a big set-back and led to a significant re-assessment of 2014-15 objectives, but Relocation Travel have been a very supportive partner to me in all of this.

No longer will I be racing at the WC’s this year, but instead, aiming towards racing two world championship events in 2015.

Ironman UK 2014 – DNS

I’m very sad to say that I have had to pull out of Ironman UK this weekend.

Unfortunately the bad run of injuries that I’ve been on for the last 6 weeks has continued right up to the final weekend of full training before tapering down. There’s been several minor injuries (plus a bonus weekend of illness) which have appeared and been so disruptive to what should have been the biggest build phase of my training.

Outlaw Half 2014 – Race Report

Finish time: 4:28:30
Age Group Position: 2nd
Overall position: 12th

The Outlaw Half was my favourite race weekend from last year – probably something to do with my first Age Group (AG 25-29) win and the all-day sunshine. It’s also organised by a great team though and the location is perfect at the National Water-sports Centre, with the swim in the rowing lake and hot showers and food available post-race, a luxury!

Kona Qualification update

Since IMUK 2013 I’ve received many congratulations on the race and winning a slot for the Ironman World Championships in Kona which have been very kind.

When putting together my plans for 2013, my goals were to get on the podium at at least one of the middle distance races I was competing in before the ironman and then qualify for Kona at IMUK to compete at the legendary world championships.

Thankyou

IMUK marked the end of my 2013 triathlon season and I now go off into a summer break, before beginning preparations for the 2014 season.

I just wanted to write a specific post to thank those who support my triathlon racing.
